Join us

New singers are welcome to join us at any time. There are no auditions, and you do not need to read music.

What to expect at rehearsals

We rehearse on Thursday evenings during term time: 7:30 – 9:30pm, at the Old School Hall, St Barnabas Church, Mill Road, Cambridge. The venue is step free with an accessible toilet.

We welcome all vocal abilities, there are no auditions, and you don’t need to be able to read music to join. All our pieces are arranged so that non-sight-readers and sight-readers alike can learn at a good pace and feel nurtured and challenged in equal measure.

2026-2027 Term Dates:

  • Autumn 2026: 24 September – 3 December (Half term break: 29 October)
  • Spring 2027: 14 January- 25 March (Half term break: 18 February)
  • Summer 2027: 29 April – 8 July (Half term break: 3 June)

Rehearsals start with a short warm up, followed by learning and practising music from our current repertoire. We have a generous tea break in the middle of rehearsals and there’s often a small group that heads to the pub to socialise after rehearsals, if that’s something you enjoy.

We mainly adopt the typical choir grouping of high voices (soprano and alto) and low voices (tenor and bass), but sometimes sing mixed up or in different groupings, and we welcome singers of all vocal ranges and any parts. If you are unsure of your range, we offer a quick, non-scary “vocal consultation” to help find the part that feels most comfortable for you.

Our performances

We perform one main annual concert in Cambridge (typically in summer or autumn), featuring an afternoon rehearsal followed by an evening performance. We also often perform at the Mill Road Winter Fair, on the first Saturday in December.

We encourage concert participation but if you’re not available or unable to perform, you’re still welcome to join us for the joy of weekly rehearsals. We ask for commitment to practice and prepare for concerts, but we understand that sometimes life can get in the way, and we don’t impose a “you must attend all rehearsals or you can’t sing in the concert” rule.

How to sign up

Please get in touch with us below to arrange to come for a free introductory session. If you like what you find at your introductory session, then you’re in!

Our usual subs are £85 for a 10-week term, paid by BACS. We will also ask you to complete a short form to say that you are happy for us to hold your contact details.

Not sure if you want to sing? We can add you to our concert mailing list and let you know when we’re next performing.
